OUR GOAL: To create an ongoing mural art program, “Walls of Wonder” to:
- Attract and engage high-risk youth in low-income neighborhoods to dissuade them from a life of gang violence and crime, which is on the rise in our community, by encouraging volunteerism and investment in their own neighborhoods through art.
- Enable at-risk youth to express themselves through public art as opposed to vandalism; belonging to a community, as opposed to a gang; and to fund education through art in a way that allows them to recognize the great value and dignity with-in themselves and the neighborhoods they reside in.
- Enrich targeted, low-income neighborhoods with vibrant visible community art to uplift blighted landscapes and enhance a sense of community pride in such neighborhoods.
- Create a sense of inclusion and recognition in neighborhood residents, from members of society that live outside of the targeted geographical zones.
- Work in tandem with other organizations and community leaders to collaborate and aid in the creation of a much-needed community center and other youth centered programs in Abbeville.
